Cloudy Water

My water just doesn't look right!

There are several things to check...
  1. Is your filter running long enough?
  2. Is your filter dirty or blocked?
  3. Is your filter system working correctly?
  4. Really old water can also be an issue...
  5. Time to shock your pool...

Work through the following steps. One or several of them will likely be the problem!
Focus Individually

Are you running your filter long enough each day?

My water just doesn't look right!

You need at least 8 hours a day.

  • Adjust your timers. 4 hours in the morning and 4 hours in the early evening is a good mix.

  • Our pool techs use 8am - 12noon and 4pm - 8pm as a good example

  • If you have solar you want it running through the peak sunny times - 10am - 6pm summertime.

  • Try and have the filter running during a period where you will notice if something is not right and it’s not running.

Is your pump/filter system working properly?

We need to check you have power to your pump and if you have one - your chlorinator!

Checking the Pump:

  • Check the pump for water flow

  • Make sure it has power. Check the chlorinator (see below).

  • Try plugging the pump directly into a working power point.

Checking the Chlorinator:

  • Make sure the chlorinator has power and the MODE switch on the panel is in the "ON" position.

Checking chlorine levels on your water test...

If your pool has Combined Chlorine we need to remove it.

  • Your pool may have that chlorine smell that nobody likes. It also reduces the disinfection power of free chlorine, it irritates and causes eye stinging and more.

  • We need to add more chlorine (10 times the Combined Chlorine level).

  • ...and hold it there for 12 hours. This will help oxidize the pool and remove the Combined Chlorine.

Is your filter dirty or blocked?

A dirty filter will not clean. We need to make sure the media in your filter system is filtering properly.

  • Make sure to either backwash or clean/replace your filter cartridge.

  • Neglecting these means your pumping plenty of water through your system but the water is just not being cleaned.

  • Check the skimmer basket and the pump basket.

Really old pool water can also be an issue. ..

If your Stabiliser (Cyanuric acid) or your Calcium levels are high for example, your water will suffer. They are both really hard to remove from the water without emptying and replacing the water in the pool. The same can be said for too high a level of salt.
